We went strawberry picking the day before Valentine’s Day, so I made a few jars of my grandmother’s strawberry jam. I thought it would be artsy to use Valentine crochet canning jar covers on the jars I gave as gifts. A couple of weeks ago while strolling through Hobby Lobby, I picked up a few skeins of I Love This Cotton Yarn along with two or three packages of Valentine craft ribbon and one package of Valentine heart colored buttons. I had no idea what I was going to do with the buttons, but they were just too cute to resist. I probably should have picked up more than one package.
I was going to crochet a small heart in contrasting colors and place on top of each jar. After several attempts, I could not make a small heart that had the look I wanted, so I replaced them with the colored heart-shaped buttons. I tie the ribbon on the side of the jar so that it doesn’t fall in front of the canning label and cover the label’s contents.
The kids loved strawberry picking, and the jam was yummy, too.

These jar covers are adorable! In that image of you putting in the ribbon, they also look like they’d make nice coasters.

This would be a great present anytime of year. So glad you included the instructions. Stopping by from the Let’s Get Real Friday Party
love these crochet jar covers! so easy to personalize by color or holiday and will make it so easy for gift giving. I think the button is perfect vs. the crochet heart, giving the piece more to touch and feel. That might not sound like what I am meaning lol.
Thanks! I was thinking that they would work for different holidays using different colors, ribbon, buttons. Glad you liked them.
The jar covers are so cute!
