I call our Christmas tablescape the Poinsettia Holiday Table Setting. I have many tablecloths and matching napkins I collected over the years in a poinsettia pattern and color scheme. Which one I decide to use each year depends on the chargers I like that day. I use red chargers with a light-colored tablecloth and gold chargers with a red tablecloth.
I also have two sets of Christmas dishes both with a poinsettia pattern. I picked the first set up over 3o years ago when there were only three of us in my family. I found myself short on Christmas dishes as the family grew. I couldn’t find the same pattern, so I ended up with a set of dishes with darker reds and greens. Over the years I planned to buy a new set of dishes, but I never got around to it. Every year, I put out both sets of dishes (each is a table setting for four).
To make it look like it should be a matching set, I alternate the pattern around the table. I fill the center of the table with gold and red candles that sit on top of different size candelabra covered in poinsettia garland. The colors and the garland help marry the sets of dishes. Once dinner begins, I replace the large centerpiece with several small holiday motives.
I’m an epic failure at folding napkins, so I usually fold them into a simple triangle and place them between the two plates. I always use a solid color napkin regardless of the tablecloth. The solid color is a good match for both dish patterns. The small glass dessert bowl is used to serve the appetizer. I set both a wine and water glass along with silverware for an appetizer, soup, dinner, and dessert. Despite all the disparity, it always seems to come together.
Lots of dishwashing when we’re finished but it’s worth it.

It is a beautiful Christmas table setting. I think I’m going to do more traditional colors including the poinsettia next year. I do not own any Christmas dishes with poinsettia so I’m watching clearance sales! I agree about the solid color napkins and the folding. I watch You Tube videos to learn how to fold.lol
