As every good crafter knows a clean work space is very important. And besides, when everything is neat an organized finding things is a lot easier. Can you imagine this scenario – you’ve had an amazing idea for a craft but finding all your tools took you at least a few hours because of the mess around you. If you don’t want this happening to you here are a few ideas how to organize your craft space.
First, decide what you need and what you don’t. Decluttering is the first step of cleaning and organizing your craft room. Get rid of all the unnecessary things so you have more space for what you really need. Once you’ve decided what to throw out you can do a yard sale. It’s a great way to kill two birds with one stone. You get rid of all unneeded things and make some extra money. If you don’t want to go to all the trouble of a sale you can always donate your things. You can even do a share and swap or in other words trade supplies with other crafters.
Second, get some shelves and racks installed. They can be pretty useful, especially for keeping everything in front of your eyes. Every crafting tool, from the smallest to the biggest should have its own place. You should also think about how often you use certain tools. It makes much more sense putting those you use frequently in front, while those you rarely reach for – in the back. Investing in containers is also a good idea. They are an easy and cheap way to keep everything organized. You should also keep in mind that there are certain tools and materials that are used in every craft, so it’s only logical to store them somewhere near you where they can be immediately accessed. In a drawer, for example, or a basket.
Let us not forget the most important tool for a crafter – the table. Usually tables shaped like an L, U or T are most efficient and maximize both your storage area and craft space. With that being said there is no need to especially buy a table like that, you can simply get a few basic tables and organize them however you want. Just keep in mind how much space you have and what types of crafts you usually do.
Another great organization tip provided by cleaners in London is dividing your work space into areas. A central area with enough room to work on your current projects and a storage area is usually all that it’s needed. It is advisable to try to use all available space for storage, like racks over the doors or windows, wall pockets and so on.
Once you’ve cleaned and organized your craft space you should make a conscious effort to keep it organized. Put all materials and tools away after you’ve finished using them, so next time you need them you’ll find everything where it’s supposed to be. Make it a ritual to take out the trash and tidy up the room right after you’ve finished a project, that way you won’t be tempted to leave the work for later. Also you should reorganize your supplies often so you can get rid of materials you don’t need and that only clutter up the room. Another great idea is to buy supplies right when you need them. That way you can avoid accumulating excess materials that usually go to waste.
But most importantly organize the space especially for you, to your liking. No two crafters are alike so keep that in mind while doing everything. Think about what will be comfortable for you and do that.

I’m constantly trying to organize my craft space. It is key to put things away when finished and to purge leftovers ever once in awhile. I’m visiting today from #didi link up.
Organizing craft space for me is hard haha. I kind of have to feel inspired first because there is so much to do, and this post was really helpful! It’s so easy to forget about all of the fun stuff I have. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
The struggle is real! I’m constantly fighting this. I need to declutter first, like you said!
I am going to apply these tips to the area where I store by table decor and baking supplies.
I’m always trying to get organized as well! Thank you so much for joining the party at Dishing It & Digging It! Hope to see you share with us again this week 🙂
Great tips! My crafting space is a total disaster right now, cleaning and organizing will definitely be on my January To Do list! 🙂
I love being organized and my craft desk is very small, usually it is pretty clear. But if I don’t keep on decluttering, stuff piles up quickly and it ends up being a dumping space for all kinds of things… Thanks for stopping by Sweet Inspiration this week!
