The holidays come and go rather quickly after Labor Day. I have Halloween decorations scattered about my house, yet I’m making Christmas ornaments. I can’t keep up! This year I’m kicking off the Christmas season with a DIY Snowy Noel Ornament. I’m one of over 80 bloggers who are participating in the 2015 Pinterventures Ornament Exchange. We’re paired up with other bloggers in this creative exchange of Christmas ornaments, and we’re sharing our creations with you.
My ornament is going to Lorey at xo, Lorey. This year Lorey decided to mix up two of her favorite Christmas themes—blingish and rustic using mostly neutral colors like brown, tan, cream and white with gold. I can’t tell you how many colors of glitter and textures of frosty snow I picked up, put down then picked up again, plus the strips of burlap and small unpainted wood pieces that I carried around the store (I put them all down and left the store twice—and that was after I sent my daughter to go get some of the things we put back). I went to both Hobby Lobby and Michael’s before I decided on an ornament design and still carried several things around the store.
You’ll need to gather these materials for your own DIY Snowy Noel Ornament:
- Clear glass ornaments
- Frosty snow
- Crystal glitter
- White snowflake stickers
- Gold glitter stickers – alphabet
- Size F crochet hook
- Neutral color yarn
Start by carefully removing the hook from the top of the ornament. Fill the bulb with frosty snow – start with about 1/4 cup but no more than a 1/2 cup. Add about 2 ounces of glitter; return the hook to the top of the ornament. Gentle shake ornament to mix snow with glitter and to coat the inside of the ornament.
Place alphabet stickers diagonally or horizontally. Add snowflakes. Tie miniature crochet scarf around the neck of the ornament. To make the scarf, chain 100 with size F crochet hook. Single crochet in second chain from hook and in each chain across. Wrap scarf around the neck of the ornament. My ornament officially kicks off the Christmas season for me:-) I only need to send it to Lorey and then I’m finished.
