I picked up these super cute snowman buttons in JoAnn last year, but I didn’t get the chance to use them. When digging through my Christmas craft stash earlier this month, I found them along with several Christmas themed fat quarters. I thought of pillows. These DIY Snowman Pillows are simple to sew and can be made in a few hours. Use square cuts of Christmas fabric or precut fat quarters to save time.
DIY Snowman Pillows Tutorial
Materials
- 11 snowman buttons
- 6 fat quarters (2 black, 2 red, 2 white)
- thread, white and black
- 1 bag of fiber fill, 20 ounces
- yarn – black, and orange
Tools
- sewing needle
- yarn needle
- scissors
- cardboard or paper
- large pot lid or another round object
- fabric marker or pencil
Notes
- The pot lid or round object should be large enough to outline the snowman’s head and leave a seam allowance.
Instructions
STEP 1: To make the snowman’s head, pin together a red and white fat quarter. Place the pot lid on the white fabric and trace around. Leave a seam allowance. Sew the quarters together leaving about an opening large enough to turn the fabric inside out. Mark the location for the eyes, mouth, and nose. See on buttons with yarn. Stuff pillow with fiber fill. Sew opening closed with needle and white thread.
STEP 2: Draw an outline of the snowman’s hat on cardboard or paper to use as a template. You can also use a fabric pencil and freehand the outline of the hat. To make the hat, pin together the two black fat quarters. Use the hat template to cut the fabric. Sew the quarters together. Leave an opening large enough to stuff the pillow. Sew opening closed with needle and black thread.
STEP 3: Pin together a red and white fat quarter for the snowman’s body. Sew together three sides about enough of the last side to turn inside out and stuff. Turn inside out. Mark location of coat buttons; sew buttons in place with yarn. Stuff pillow with fiber fill. Sew opening closed with needle and white thread.
