Haunt your house by arranging DIY Halloween spooky lab jars on a counter in your kitchen or bathroom. This project takes less than 30 minutes to do and is a great DIY activity for kids. The coolest thing about this DIY Halloween spooky lab jars project is that it’s cheap! All you need are a few jars, a little food color, and a few plastic creepy things. I collect unique jars all year just to use for Halloween crafts. I also save pickle and jelly jars and tall olive jars. You can also pick up apothecary jars and bottles at Hobby Lobby, Michael’s and JoAnn’s, or use different size Mason jars with lids and rings. Fill the jars with colored water and small plastic fingers, spiders, fingers, ears, skeletons and other creepy Halloween props to haunt your friends and family. Use labels and Halloween ribbon to make the jars double creepy. Most of the materials can be picked up at local dollar stores for about $1 a package.
MATERIALS
Assorted Mason jars or bottles with lids or corks
Plastic eyeballs, fingers, teeth, skeletons, bugs or other small creepy things
Black and red food color
Water
Halloween ribbon (optional)
Self-adhesive pre-printed Halloween labels (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
Make DIY Halloween Spooky Lab Jars or bottles look more like lab specimens by filling one or two with just colored water–red for blood and black for poison. Add clear water to bottles that hold specimens. Assorted shapes and sizes of the bottles help make the scene extra eerie.
STEP 1: Remove lids or corks from bottles. For bottles or jars that will only hold colored water, make sure the lid fits tight. Add water to one or two bottles, then add one or two drops of food color to each bottle. Tighten lid. I don’t shake the jars; I just let the food color drift and float. Add a label to each bottle.
STEP 2: Fill other bottles or jars with eyeballs, teeth, fingers, and tiny skeletons. Add water to each bottle or jar as desired. Decorate the necks of the jar with Halloween ribbon (optional). Add Halloween labels (optional).
Happy haunting!
