I found this awesome Halloween fabric at Hobby Lobby®. The colorful fabric is an adult one size fits all pre-printed pattern for a Halloween kitchen witch apron and two oven mitts. The apron is a black lace-up bodice witch dress and striped stockings against an orange background. The directions are marked on the fabric along with pre-marked sewing lines. I couldn’t pass it up. It’s a great project for those who are learning how to sew, and it only takes a couple of hours to make the apron.
I haven’t made the oven mitts. The mitts require additional supplies like cotton batting and Insul-Bright, a material used to insulate fabrics like oven mitts, pot holders, and casserole covers. I’ll write a post on the oven mitts once I finish making them.
How to make the apron?
- Start by washing, drying, and ironing the fabric. Cotton fabric will shrink, so you want to make sure that the fabric shrinks before you sew.
- Cut out the apron, short neck straps, and long waist straps. Set aside the front and back pieces for the oven mitts plus the two black hanging straps. Keep the scraps to stuff handmade dolls.
- Set your sewing machine to the zig zag stitch and stitch around the edges of the apron. You may also want to learn how to serge seams instead of using the zig zag stitch. If you want to learn how to serge stitch, check out this video on How To Serge Seam Allowances.
- Fold back the seam allowances, press with a hot iron, and top stitch.
- Right sides together, fold each neck strap in half lengthwise. Stitch one end and long edge. Turn the fabric inside out using a turning tool. Press each strap with a hot iron.
- Repeat #5 for the waist straps.
- Attach neck straps to top of apron at notches (pre-printed sewing lines) and stitch in place.
- Attach waist straps to sides of apron at notches and stitch in place.
I usually press the finished piece one more time after the sewing is done.

This is so cute! Now I want to go to Hobby Lobby to see if they have it at mine! Do you mind sharing how much it cost?
I think it was about $6. I did use a 40% coupon. If you buy the batting and insul-bright for the mitts, it will cost more.
Well if that isn’t the cutest apron! What a fun project!
