Your home is your haven, but you don’t want to keep your house to yourself. When guests visit, you want to do everything you can to make them feel welcome, and having the right decor in place can be a big part of entertaining them in your home. Find out four ideas to make your home more inviting.
Use the Right Colors
Warm colors, such as orange, red, and yellow, are stimulating. These colors are great for the social rooms in your house, including the kitchen, dining room, and living room. You don’t want your guests to be too stimulated, so you have to be careful about how you use warm colors. Some people paint one wall red and paint the other walls in a neutral color, such as beige or off-white.
If you want to create more of a relaxed vibe, aim for cool colors. Blues and greens are calming and can create a feeling of openness. Generally, cool colors tend to be best for the private rooms in your house, such as the bedroom, but you can pair them with warm accents to create a balanced feeling in your home’s public areas.
Provide Comfortable Seating
Whether you’re having a formal dining party or you’re inviting a few friends to watch a football game with you, your guests should have a comfortable place to sit. Having a plush sofa and cool rocking chair isn’t enough. Accessorize your seating with pillows, throws, and footstools.
Choose to buy matching throws and pillows for a uniform, streamlined look. Alternatively, buy mismatched pieces that will create an eclectic ambience. If you aim for eclectic, be sure you have something to unify the room, such as a color, texture, or theme.
Regulate Your Home’s Indoor Temperatures
Your guests are unlikely to be comfortable if they have to keep their coats and hats on while they’re in your house or if they start fanning themselves because they’re too hot. If you have rooms that always seem to be too warm or too cold, install heavy curtains to keep the outside air at bay. However, curtains might not be enough to help you with your temperature problems.
Installing a ductless heating and air conditioning system can be the ideal way to regulate the temperature in a room so that your guests aren’t shivering or sweating. Ductless systems are fantastic for homes that don’t have central HVAC systems, because they are easy to install and focus on specific areas of the house.
Enhance the Lighting
Lighting can make or break the way a room feels. A room that is too dark may feel like a cave or dungeon, and a room that is too bright doesn’t allow you to enjoy your favorite television shows. Install a dimmer so that you can adjust the level of light in a room to suit the occasion. Bring in some accent lighting; lamps not only offer extra illumination, but they also provide another opportunity for you to express your creative side.
Making your home more inviting isn’t hard. You may only need to offer comfortable seating, regulate indoor temperatures, adjust your color scheme, or enhance the lighting.
