  • 1 pound ground beef 80% or less
  • ½ spanish or yellow onion finely chopped
  • ½ cup soybean olive, vegetable oil or shortening
  • 2 tablespoons NY System Wiener spice mix
  • 1 pound natural casing wieners
  • yellow mustard
  • chopped spanish or yellow onions
  • celery salt
  • 6-8 steamed buns

  1. Heat oil in a 2 quart saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and simmer until brown.
  3. Stir in spice mix and then crumble beef into mixture. Mix well.
  4. Simmer, covered, for 1 hour and stir occasionally. Mash with a potato masher for finer consistency. If the sauce is too dry after a half hour, add more oil.
  5. Steam or simmer wieners until hot.
  6. Steam buns to get spongy texture. Wrap bun in a paper towel, and place in microwave for 5 seconds on high or until buns become soft and spongy. Don't over microwave or buns will become hard.
  7. Place wiener in bun, then top with mustard, followed by wiener sauce, finely chopped onions, and celery salt. Serve immediately.
