Chin Hua Chinese Restaurant in Winter Park

Chin Hua Chinese Restaurant

I’ve eaten at Chin Hua Chinese restaurant since it opened.  I can’t think of one time when the quality of the food was anything less than exceptional.  The staff is always friendly, and the service is quick and efficient. Chi, now a chef for over 30 years, and Wing, his wife, opened Chin Hua in 1996 (see www.chinhuachinese.com for more about Chi and Wing) after leaving China with stops first in Chicago and then New York before they settled in Winter Park.  The restaurant is located in the Winter Park Palms Plaza (the old Goldenrod Groves Shopping Center) at the intersection of Howell Branch Road and Aloma Avenue in Winter Park.  The restaurant is quaint and modestly adorned in Chinese decor.

The menu has the usual fare common in Chinese restaurants—lo mein, fried rice, General Tso’s chicken, chow mein, and many not so common but delicious chef specials.   My husband likes the Dragon and Phoenix—lobster chunks with chicken breast slices stir-fried in Chinese vegetables.  Lately he’s ordered the Happy Familybeef, chicken, pork, scallops, and lobster stir-fried with mixed vegetables.  For a long time, he was stuck on the Wor Sui Duck and Egg Drop and Wonton Soup mixed.

Scallops with Black Pepper Sauce

It occurred to me when we ordered from Chin Hua the other night that I’ve probably tried everything on the menu at one time or another.  I do have my favorites: Stuffed Shrimp Rolls, Eggplant in Garlic Sauce, Orange Beef, and King of the Sea—lobster, shrimp, scallops, and crab in lobster sauce.  Recently I’ve ordered Scallops with Black Pepper Sauce—a combination of lightly breaded sea scallops, onions, green bell pepper, broccoli and spicy black pepper sauce.  Even my two-year old grandson loves both the Pork Fried Rice and Lo Mein.

You can always count on the quality of the food at Chin Hua’s; it has proven that it can stand the test of time.  Whether you’re a Chinese food fanatic or a new comer to Chinese food, I highly recommend Chin Hua.  You won’t be disappointed.
